What Trump Didn’t Tell You About Getting Rich

April 8, 2008 categories:  Christian Articles

MoneyDonald Trump has made himself a nice little side business teaching people (supposedly) how to build wealth. I’ve got the dirt on what the Donald doesn’t know about riches and being rich. My source?  Only the eternal living word of God.  You’re right….you should probably trust the Donald (just kidding):

Being rich makes it tougher to get through the pearly gates: Jesus dropped the knowledge in Matthew 19:23 when He said, ““Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.”

But why?  Jesus said in Matthew 6:24 that, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”  What’s the point that the Lord is trying to make here?

Priorities, good folks.  Receiving wealth as a side effect of a healthy relationship with the Lord is natural.  Slaving away to build worldly wealth at the expense of a personal relationship with Jesus is the ultimate in fruitless labor.  Why?  Well, you can’t exactly take it with you, now can you?

It continues to astound me that people spend their entire lives here on Earth in pursuit of a commodity that can’t be transferred into eternity.  The kingdom version of riches is so much different than the worldly version that most people never fully grasp the concept, but the riches that can be transferred into eternity can’t be earned by spending 100 hours a week a work.

“That may be true, but rich people have more fun while they’re here on Earth.” Right, I hear you.  It’s all fun and games until the King of Glory comes again and finds you in the middle of a fancy night club surrounded by beautiful women having never taken the time to consider the eternal implications of your actions.  I bet it won’t be too fun then, will it?

But listen, I didn’t write this post to bash rich people.  If you’re wealthy, good for you.  It’s not impossible to find your way into the Kingdom of God, it’s just hard.  I know of at least one rich man who managed to get it done.  His name is Joseph of Arimathea.  How did he get there?  He adjusted his priorities accordingly.  I’d like to offer you the same opportunity right now.

Get Jesus
